The Upper Karnali region comprises Nepal’s largest non-protected landscape, spanning approximately 6000 km2. This region is home to some of the world’s most threatened species, including the wild yak, snow leopard, Himalayan wolf, Kashmir musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Pallas’s cat among others. This project is dedicated to documenting the biodiversity baseline and fostering community participation in wildlife conservation through a community-led, multi-faceted approach. A primary objective involves assessing the population status of the snow leopard and its wild prey base in the Humla district, aligning with the government’s nationwide plan for a comprehensive snow leopard population assessment. Thematic activities encompass biodiversity survey and monitoring, capacity-building training, conservation education and outreach, livelihood enterprise development, and community-led conservation actions. #ukali #community #conservation #leadingbylocal #himalaya
